An infrastructure project, called “Second tourist pole of the Capital”, has been developed in order to spread the capital’s holiday offer, making Rome more and more competitive towards other cities, which miss anyway the unique charm, typical of Rome, deriving from its history, civilization as well as archaeological and monumental heritage. This plan involves 23 projects, concerning an area of 27.000 hectares, within the city’s southern-east urban sector.

Projects included in the second tourist pole are represented by Formula 1 Championship, the theme park on Ancient Rome, an Aquarium under Eur’s Lake, Fiumicino’s tourist Harbour and Ostia’s Harbour extension, Cinecittà World as well as Ostia’s waterfront.

The “Second Pole” allows the interaction of five segments: congresses-conferences-fairs, sport and recreation as for thematic parks, and yachting-nautical-cruising for equipped green areas.

The fulcrum of the new convention centre is represented by Fuksas’ Cloud, which, thanks to its 9.000 seats, will be the attraction element for visitors and business. Rome will be able to count on 26.000 places in terms of conventions and congresses. Visitors coming to Rome for a congress will have the possibility of choosing among several different proposals, with a variety of offers going from the new golf system, sport followed by 50 millions players all over the world, to Formula 1 Championship, starting in 2012.

Also recreational tourism will represent a big attraction to visitors, able to enjoy themselves within theme parks or green areas. Rome will also become the biggest yachting, nautical and cruising centre in Europe, with its 6.000 available boat places.

50% of projects of the “Second pole” is being realized and works are going to be accomplished between the end of 2012 and the beginning of 2013.

The year 2013 will be a strategic year to Rome: the country hosting Olympic games for the year 2020 will be chosen in Buenos Aires.

The “Second tourist pole” is strategic for Rome’s candidacy in organizing Olympic Games, cause thanks to the project the capital can become more and more competitive. Within 5 years and before 2020, the “Second pole” is going to be accomplished, by improving the capital’s economic resources and visitors’ presences. The Pole is going to become the first tourist integrated complex centre.
